Nestled in the heart of the south of France lies Occitany, a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. While it may not be on the top list for international tourists, this serene haven offers a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism. As I wander through the picturesque villages, one name stands out among the rest – Pezenas.

Pezenas, a town steeped in history and charm, beckons with its cobblestone streets, ancient stone buildings, and intricate medieval architecture. Each step reveals a treasure trove of beauty – from the ornate old doors and windows to the vibrant climbing plants adorning the walls. The sun may not always be in the perfect position for photography, but in these narrow streets designed to stay cool, its gentle touch creates a magical play of light and shadow.

Exploring small coastal towns like Meze, Marseillan, and Sete revealed a different side of Occitany’s allure. The traditional piers dotted with colorful boats, the gentle lapping of the sea against the shore, and the laid-back lifestyle of the Mediterranean people painted a serene picture of sun, sea, and seafood. Indulging in the area’s famed oysters at a seaside café terrace became a must-do experience, a sensory delight that tantalized the taste buds and offered a glimpse into the region’s culinary heritage.

Amidst the quaint streets, the traditional village markets come alive with a symphony of colors and scents. Local fruits, vegetables, savory hams, cheeses, and the irresistible olives tempt the senses, creating a feast for both the eyes and the palate. As I try to capture the essence of this vibrant scene through my lens, my stomach and taste buds conspire against me, urging me to indulge in the local delights.

Caught in the act by some mischievous merchants, their playful demand for 50 euros for a photo elicits laughter and adds a touch of humor to the moment. Despite the distractions, I manage to steal a few shots before reluctantly tearing myself away. As my family awaits for a leisurely lunch, I can’t help but yearn to linger longer in this enchanting atmosphere.

But I take solace in the knowledge that in a few days, the market will open again, offering another chance to savor the sights, sounds, and flavors of Occitany.
